Well I dont live anwhere near a shortline just CSX and Norfolk Southern around here and the scanner helps out a whole heck of a lot. (track warrants, signal calls, defect detectors,train id's etc). On a shortline I could understand how you might not need it as much......but in agreement with Carl that the scanner is a very helpful. I would actually be lost without one.
