This law is geared towards giving the government a tool to prosecute spammers and other scam artists who use e-mail addresses and other high tech ways to conceal their true identity and motives. At face value it seems dumb but this is a huge problem. This law may have been signed into law for some symbolic reason cause we all know it is almost impossible to track this stuff. Another point about this, whether or not you like President Bush or not, the article states that "The bill cleared the House of Representatives by voice vote, and the Senate unanimously approved it Dec. 16." meaning both parties were part of this becoming law. Just my 2 cents worth, the government has passed dumber laws in the past, this one is hardly memorable.
