Well, after reading the posts I went back and tweaked the white balance and brightness and re-submitted the photo.
Looks much better - thanks for the comments.

With the reject I had isolated the sky and background and used the "auto levels". I think that threw it off.

How does this look on your monitor? I've set my new one as best I could, but still not sure about it.
This reject for underexposed looks O.K to me. The snow is bright white.
Opinions on brightness...

That helps. I think I'll start from scratch again; edit the colour version first before converting to B&W.

Have you tried Neat Image? This demo is free. I prefer it to the PSE 7 noise reduction method, but it is limited in size capacity....
