I think the trailer/flat car combo is too tight of a crop on the train in the background. Also, the angles are too confusing. Maybe straightening out the train, which is the focal point, would help...

I've had this one for almost a year. I think it is fine. The only complaint I have is some blurring near the edges of the frame. All my photos since 2/2005 are with this lens.

Did you appeal either one? I think the first one would the best chance. Since the locomotives are black, detail doesn't come as easy. It is obvious that it is foggy.

I will let the techinical experts address the cloudy/foggy sky. But I will say, there is too much dead space on all sides of the train. Sharpening the photo could be helpful as well.

It looks washed out, like a sign left in a grocer's window all summer. Maybe a little saturation would help. I am surprised it was rejected, being such a rare locomotive and over 20 years old now.
