I became curious as to what shade a Cotton Belt caboose should actually be. An image search was no help at all- some were bright red, some were boxcar red!

EDIT: Something I should have noticed...

Well, unfortunately we can't view the original slide directly. But it sure bears more than a little resemblance to my (thankfully few) Ansco and Agfa faded and shifted slides!

Before the image even finished loading, the problem was obvious (IMHO).
It's a color slide that has faded and shifted! Excess red is everywhere. Needs a ton of contrast as well.

Interesting that they chose to currently feature a very dark photo that's super as a weather photo, but with a train way in the dark distance and kind of hard to view without some magnification.

As for sharpening, you can always sharpen a bit more and see how it looks. You can always go back if it looks like too...

I would re-save the photo from another editor such as IrfanView just to be certain. IrfanView alerts you if an extension is incorrect.

Even so, would the screeners reconsider? Probably not. The ditch lights still overwhelm.
