I agree with this. It seems to me that these type of shots work as either A) just the signal head (like the two comparison examples) or B) the entire signal from ground up. This is sort of in...

First of all, that's a good shot by most "normal" standards - you have at least half a nose of light on the CN and most of the VIA nose and it's an interesting scene. I might have done a little...

All very good advice that I agree with. Just one other thought though, in my home area I usually will take the "don't bother" advice through the middle of the day (or at least "don't submit the...

You can add me to the Mitch list of "Great shot, just enough train". I think it's a beautiful shot and there's just enough train in it. But then I like broad shots like that also:

'cause it's a high sun harshly backlit boring wedgie where the photographer let the front of the train run into the foreground bush. The BCRail leader isn't *that* rare and that train at that...

It's a nice shot, shows the scene well, but not a 'typical rp.net' kind of shot.

For that matter "cloudy/common"? If it's snowing, it's not really noticeable in the shot and otherwise it just looks like a cloudy shot of a H-unit. I know people still get excited over seeing them...

What he said. I understand what you were doing and in other venues it'd work just fine but a 'standard rp.net crop' for that would lose the pole on the left and everything left of it (and I'd...

Mitch,

I like wider compositions than what rp.net prefers to show more of the surroundings in general, so I'm an easy sell on the other two crops being better (though they all look great!). In...

The shot "looks right" to me. I'd point out that I've seen telephone poles sticking up at all sorts of different angles so they're rarely reliable "vertical" references. However, in this shot the...

Yeah - the "pole removal" takes it from a cloudy day shot that is outside of typical rp.net material to a major no-no for the site.
