When FRED's AND OPEN DOORS ruin a picture.....
Someone had to start it....... So go ahead! Post Em'! I personally have none, but lets see yours.

EDIT: Due to popular demand...... This has been converted to a fred AND open door combo thread... Jim  :) ;)

JimThias 05-29-2008 11:28 PM

This needs to be a FRED/door open combo thread.

bigbassloyd 05-29-2008 11:28 PM

Can it be a guy named Fred?

Loyd L.

Door open:

how about a bag of ice on the steps?

I just do not have anything with at FRED, except perhaps:

Christopher Muller 05-30-2008 01:30 AM

Had to upload one with an open door... No FRED on the front, but still an open door... and it wasn't rejected for OPEN DOOR!! Gives it more personaility in my OPINION because it shows a (even though small) human element because of the extreme heat on this day.

JRMDC 05-30-2008 01:39 AM

This one isn't an open door, but it is a replacement door, thus not quite matching in color and truncating the end off the non-word on the nose, thus deserving to be shunned by any but the most hard core of railfans (such as the person who actually knew when, where, and under what circumstances the door had to be switched out!):

I presume my viewcount for this monstrosity will not be rising as a result of its appearance here. :)

Well I dont have any myself...but I can understand how an open door or a fred could mess a picture up.

But in your case Janzus I would say a door change wouldnt look so good either.

Freericks 05-30-2008 02:22 AM

What about a water bottle perched on the nose?

Mustang11 05-30-2008 04:14 AM

Try this one for open door...

Still love the shot though, but can a broom on the front ruin a shot???

I have one. It isn't that good of a photo even if Fred wasn't looking over at the other train eating.

Or a bag of ice hanging from the front of the train!

The DMIR (which could also ruin a picture according to some) always used to do that too.

jdirelan87 05-30-2008 11:47 AM

When I saw the FRED while editing, I thought it really added to the shot 8)

MichaelJ 05-30-2008 12:24 PM

I'm not exactly sure what 'FRED' means and I might be picky but here's what I don't like ...

Unequal blinds and destroyed decals

One bulb out on the headlight

Timetables and other paper work on the dash

Headlight turned off (even though it is a sign of respect)

Here's the perfect train; recently refurbished, decals in tact, blinds equal, headlight on, no graffiti, nice destination (cue driver head swell). Setup?

"Flashing rear end device." Also known as EOT, or end of train device. If you look at all the photos above with a "FRED" in them, you'll see something similar on the front of each locomotive. That usually goes at the back of the train and is known for ending the life of cabooses. Damn those evil FREDs!

MichaelJ 05-30-2008 01:42 PM

That makes sense now; the water bottles, ice bags and open doors threw me off.

We call them Battery Operated Guard (BOG).

I think I'd rather be flashed by BOG than be flashed by FRED.

Joe the Photog 05-30-2008 02:26 PM

Wht about a stop sign?

What about a stop sign and an old man?

This is another ruined shot I should not have taken, in spite of being so far from home, this being my first time seeing the frank and it already being more than 80 degrees in the heat of summer.

Wht if someone is coming out of the open door?

This next one really bothers me. It's July in South Carolina at the beach and that GP doesn't have an A/C But it's flawed and besides, that cre should just go over themselves.

Here's another selfish crew in June in South Carolina, only thinking about themselves.

So many flaws, so little time

Ween 05-30-2008 06:43 PM

How about a mini-FRED (I think that's what that thing is!):

Back in the days of steam, long before FREDs were invented, photographers had to deal with these ruining their shots...

John Ryan 05-30-2008 08:33 PM

Uh, oh.
