i know the first two are kinda going away/ kinda not-blue-sky, but what do you think?

third?

fourth?

(and did they really just send me a happy birthday wish email...)

Paolo Roffo 04-22-2011 12:38 PM

I can't see the first two getting past the screeners. As you say, going away shots. Same for the last one - too many trees, going away shot, and we can't even see that much of the train.

The third one definitely has potential though. Needs some cropping, and maybe a little contrast, but I could see that in the database.

Hatchetman 04-22-2011 01:10 PM

None of them are bad, but only #3 fits in with what they are looking for.

troy12n 04-22-2011 01:45 PM

Maybe #3, but it's unlevel, overexposed, high sun. The rest, no.

Joe the Photog 04-22-2011 02:14 PM

Why would they send you a birthday wish? They have something against you, right? Afterall, you don't think they even try on your shots anymore. Although I still don't know what that means. Agree with Troy on what he said about the shots. #3 is your best chance, but it's a slim chance itself.

happy birthday!

is that ok?

Greg P 04-22-2011 11:11 PM

The Happy Birthday is automatic. :)

As for the pictures, you can have a going away and a coming to, and I think the San Juaqin is running cab forward. What might hurt you is nose light on the cab car's front.

The Montana picture has a chance.

troy12n 04-22-2011 11:14 PM

Did you get a rejection on your birthday?

Me on the other hand, I didn't get rejected, and even got a present from NS while spending my birthday with family in SC!

[photoid=358928]

P.S I meant to shoot more 'nose on', but oh well not my complete best, but I love the scene, and power!

Am I the only one that thinks it could use a little more work? It seems too red and overexposed, slightly. Is this better?

I'm with you Peter. It seems at least a little over exposed and under sharpened.

troy12n 04-23-2011 08:20 PM

For the record, it seems he made no changes at all prior to submitting that photo and I am kind of surprised it got in as-is.

Why do you come here and ask if you are not going to follow through on the suggestions.

coborn35 04-23-2011 08:25 PM

Because its a free country.

That wasn't directed toward you, Mark. I just quoted your post because you had posted his picture. :-D

AntD. 04-24-2011 02:44 AM

Damn...2 clicks in Picasa of all things and it looks better!

Yea, I'm not the one to criticize, but I went into Picasa just for the heck of it, two clicks later and the photo looks a heck of a lot different (better IMO)...

Gotcha.;);)

The two shots Troy posted are slightly different, look at the shadows above the second loco.

crazytiger 04-24-2011 05:01 PM

There's still a nasty red/yellow cast in the shot that needs to be fixed, regardless of how much/little the screener paid attention. Additionally, it could use some sharpening, but it's not too bad.

stevenmwelch 04-24-2011 05:08 PM

I don't like it. Its the Feather River Canyon, where the hell is the river? Looks like you were still driving on Hwy 70 when you shot this.

[photoid=291833]

BTW, do some research in the database for what the City and Locations are for those spots, it prevents others (me) from having to correct it.

troy12n 04-24-2011 05:20 PM

LoL, I didnt know there was a river there you could have incorporated into the picture.
