Color (hue)

I can usually figure these out, but this one has me at a loss as to where the color is. Is it too blue or too yellow? I'm really not sure. Anyone able to help out? Thanks!

Too "blue" Joseph.

Difficult to fix hue issues without having the original, but seeing it a lot heavier and warmer, this is my quick edit of the rejected photo.

Doesn't look overly blue on my screen, especially compared to some of the oversaturated stuff I've seen. Charles' retouch really pops but looks unnatural to me. Too much yellow. UP units come by me every day on coal trains and that faded leader is pretty accurate color wise on the original image.

The rejected is blue biased, and the one Charles suggested appears too saturated. I'd find a resolution somewhere between the two.

Don't you make my Brown eyes Blue?

Yes, you can make that faded yellow nose a near vibrant yellow. You can turn a cool bright blue spring day into a warm summer afternoon.

On the other hand I had to take rich warm summer afternoon shot into a bland mid day image to get it accepted and it still bothers me.

I really hate these rejections, try to homogenize scenes to some norm, taking individual interpretation out of it, probably running it through some tool.
On the other hand, at sunset you can do whatever and get a .......

This one, looks a little blue but on those bright blue cool days, that is the look you want? Ballast, hand rails, poles all look OK, no purple snow.

Agreed :-)

Thanks for the feedback guys, I'll take a look at bringing it a little more yellow tonight, but yeah, the nose was very faded, you can compare the color of the leader to the brand new tier 4 ace you might notice like 3 or 4 back.

Brought the white balance just a bit to the right, seems to have worked, thanks

My comment about the nose, if it had been a bright yellow the whole image could have appeared warmer. I'd say looking at the accepted and the rejected, there is a distinction without a difference or my color perception is just poor.
Little annoying to go through the dance.

Looks like an uncorrected upload to me.

I put the rejected into one tab and the accepted into another, and then went back and forth. I could see no difference at all.

Well I only bumped it from 4500 to 4800 so it's a pretty minor adjustment...any more seemed too yellow.

vcode455 04-06-2018 11:37 AM

What Jim says. I was hard pressed to tell the difference.

Do you thin it's still too blue? I can always edit it and reupload if it's still off in color.

The faded paint on the leader is a negative IMO. Maybe selectively enhance just the yellow?

Not to beat this thread to .... but I know for a fact would not be the first time an image was "updated" but the original was uploaded by mistake and accepted.

I reuploaded a copy and made sure it was the new version. I only adjusted the white balance by +200 so it is pretty subtle, but wanted to make sure I hadn't submitted an old version.

Point being, the original was just fine. :-)

i know you don't want to hear this, but that's a pretty crappy photo location, all those wooden poles and wires are pretty distracting

I'm not sure if you're being serious or not...but those are kind of the point. Running a coal train with big UP power on the South Shore, not just a random coal train anywhere.

That's kinda the point when shooting the occasional coal train on the Electrified South Shore lol

I like the photo because of the poles. I would not "enhance" the color of the lead loco. Why turn it into something it is not? Might as well turn it red and say it has a CP leader........
