I dont think that would lower the cost one bit. Just like some people say they dont use video and would want a DSLR without video. Well, the money was spent on the R&D, at this point, adding some of these functions to DSLR's is a trivial thing, and it would not save you any money at all.

Yeah, ok, a bare-bones, minimal-feature DSLR would cost as much as the loaded Cadillac. Got it. I'll give up my dream then.

It's completely different.

Using a car as an example:
V8 or V6
Leather or cloth (or vinyl, lol)
AM/FM or AM/FM/Tape, AM/FM/TAPE/CD, navigation, etc (8 track player)
2 door, 4 door

These are options that require physically different components to be installed, which have a higher cost than the "base" system.

Using a DSLR as an exampe, say a Digital Rebel T3i.

The video functionality is built into the sensor, making it work is all done in software, that R&D is already done. It costs a manufacturer nothing more to actually enable it and make it usable to the end user. I am guessing the only difference between one with and one without is a button. It's most likely a button they used for something else prior (like the printer button?). I dont know because I dont have one that does it.

What I am saying is, YOU WILL BUY THAT CADDY, AND YOU WILL LOVE IT!! :-P

It wasn't meant as a literal analogy. I hope you didn't waste too much time typing that out.
