Unexpected PAQs
 
I had these three images rejected for PAQ.

I always expect a rejection, I can think of reasons why they might be rejected, but PAQ isn't among them.

Is it because the screener just doesn't like the subject?* These are not just toy trains, they are recognised narrow gauge heritage railways and are constituents of the* "Great Little Trains of Wales".

Can I ask for your opinions please?

I like the first one, sun is high though. Second one is leaning left and a bit backlit for RP purposes and possibly a composition balance issue as well with everything happening on the right edge - maybe a bit more above (sky) needed too. Three, pity the lovely little loco is not running correctly positioned / orientated. Four seems to have its own issues going on as well and yes generally PAQ. Pity, lovely little loco!

Oh my God... if I see ANOTHER photo from the Llanberis Lake Railway that will make, what? 3 on RP.

Jeeze Louise. I thought RP had lightened up, and I question why, if not, especially with a well received, long term patron such as yourself.

Here are my thoughts - the screener (hopefully), must have thought these were "toy" trains. I'd appeal each and every one and edit the captions (sooner or later) to better document the history of the locomotive and perhaps the railroad itself. Not sure how long the tourist line has been around - would be interesting to know more, but specifically note (as implied indirectly) that these are REAL narrow gauge historic locomotives that were built small for a specific task, namely working in a quarry, vs carrying passengers squeezed into what I assume are modern passenger cars with no historic value.

State the railroad and locomotives were previously accepted on RP as well - however, both without a reference nearby to suggest size and scale. Exactly why the one with the car in the image works. I like the backwards shot as well - it better tells the story of the line and its operation (there are plenty of images of steam locomotives pulling consists tender first on RP). I agree with Charles on the second one - does appear to be leaning.

I think 1 & 2 are pleasing photos, as noted provide more description, with resubmit and note to screeners. #4 with the modern car just awkward in the frame and #3 in the parking lot really do not fit in. For me not my favorite subject but I like the historical aspect, even more with greater description plus appreciate the work these groups put into this.

I think #1 is the only one worth appealing. Nice composition and wonderful color.

#2, it's unlevel and the composition is a little awkward.

#3 and #4. No and no.

1 and 2 look like rejection due to screener inattention and being uninformed. Maybe 4 also.

3, well, is that a real loco that was used at one time for real work, or is that something cobbled together just for tourist operations?

To be honest, it looks a little too much like an amusement park ride. Still, the first one could have been accepted.

On the other hand, if it was a Maine two-footer, acceptance would have been likely. A segment of US fans just don't like "foreign".

The Boothbay Railway Museum used a Henschel for years. Does that qualify as a "foreign Maine two-footer"? :lol:

Typical Maine tourists probably thought it was "cute"! And how many kids would know the difference?

A couple other Henschel two-footers in the USA. So much fake about these, but I would still have taken some pics.

I decided to appeal the first one.

I was never completely happy with the lack of interest in the left of frame of no. 2. And,as most of you pointed out, it's also leaning.
Although I quite like no. 4, I think that I will not waste my appeal goodwill by appealing nos. 3 and 4.

I'm pleased to say that my appeal was successful.
