Glint light backlit rejections
 
I submitted these two shots recently as i thought they were glinty enough to get past the backlit nose, but apparently not.
I really liked this on as i like the glow on the silver Amtrak units, the lead unit being #100 doesnt hurt either.

This one i liked the high contrast light, which showed every detail clearly

Any chance for a appeal on either of these?

My opinion which holds as much weight as a bucket with a hole in it... but the first one has too much exposure, the sun is still too high. In glint shots I've had success with, you need to be pretty angled to the train. A 5d angle photographer to train and a 170d angle for the sun.

The second one, the tree framing is more of a distraction than a frame.

For the first shot, the big blob of white in the sky at right is a real killer for me. It seems like you have plenty of space, may want to crop this down. You also need to fix the caption, where you say the engine is "leading the way into the setting sun." It is very obvious that the sun is just out of frame to the right and the train is heading away from it, hence the dark nose on the 100.
For the second shot, I echo what Chris said.

If you had the whole train without the tree in the way, I think it would have a decent chance of being accepted.

1st doesn't work for me. Too much dead space and poor composition. I like the 2nd one even thought the tree is distracting with how much train it covers and too much tree on the left side.

I figured the white sky might kill the first one, i couldnt underexpose much more as i wanted to keep the detail in the flowers, also its a little hard judging exposure at that time of day since my LCD has a short circuit giving the whole thing a red tint.:mad:

And for the second one, i did the best i could, i was shooting from a overpass and that the lowest i could get.
I guess for right now ill let em go and submit something else and mabye work on cropping the first one and change the caption.
